The night the last sprint made all the difference.
The lesson from last night’s Concept Cyclery Points races was always sprint in the last sprint – even for 13th. The Group C races ended with three riders tied for 2nd with 5 points: Brianna Hand, David Pettit, Bruce Hushbeck. Second place in the last sprint gave Hand second and Pettit third.
In the Group B Concept Cyclery Points Race the last sprint was even more critical. Three riders tied for 3rd with 5 points: Mark Rodamaker, Mike Flynn, and Scott Davis. Rodamaker won the final sprint so he placed 3rd. But to break the tie for 4th Flynn was 13th and Davis was 14th in the final sprint giving Flynn 4th in the points race.
In the Group A Concept Cyclery Points Race, Joel Shaffer beat Michael Hernandez in the last sprint breaking their tie for the win. Nole Studley and Maurice Monge tied for 3rd with 6 points with Studley beating Monge in the last sprint.
Lesson: Sprint the last sprint – even for 13th – you never know when that effort will break a tie.
The Group B SportVelo Miss n Out was entertaining as Marcus Smith was the guy with 9 lives. 24 rider made the race fast and Marcus Smith miss being called out by centimeters more times than I have fingers. Wow! Beth Newell played the devil well but when Flynn attacked in the final sprint neither Stewart or Newell could respond,
David McCook continued his great work with our junior program by schooling everyone in the Group A SportVelo Miss n Out. On the final sprint junior Daniel Farinha was glued to McCook’s wheel waiting for the enivatable to happen and rode McCook’s wheel just past Hernandez for second.
